ABOUT PFR
the beginning of the pfr story.
where the story of the prison fellowship foundation began.
The roots of the “mother” foundation are found in the United States and are closely linked to Chuck Colson (one of President Nixon’s advisers). In the Watergate scandal, Colson was sentenced to 7 months in prison. There, incarcerated, he understood the difficulties and challenges that inmates go through.
1976
the year Colson founded Prison Fellowship
1979
he founded Prison Fellowship International
the real mission is revealed.
Those 7 months spent in prison brought a lot of awareness: the strong need to mobilize the community and the churches to provide support to the incarcerated people, the released people, but also their families.
From the beginning, Prison Fellowship aims to mobilize the whole society towards showing concern for people in difficulty, implicitly to impact the communities with which they interact.
currently, the activity of the “mother” foundation is carried out in several countries
each team being united by the same goal: to provide, through organized programs and campaigns, material and spiritual help to the disadvantaged people.

dedicated body and soul to the mission of the foundation.
1993 - Constantin Asăvoaie founded the Prison Fellowship Romania Foundation. Mr. Asăvoaie understood the needs of the incarcerated people, but also the difficulties and traumas that underlie the crime. “In prison I realized that there is a lot of pain, there are so many children who are not guilty of the crimes of their parents… There is a great need for hope and love for people, and I realized that if you can’t get down to the level of the "fallen" and help him get over the problem he has, you have no reason to look at that person proudly. ”

the solution to a community’s problems is also found in the community.
Mr. Asăvoaie’s mission was, as in the case of Chuck Colson, to come to the aid of people deprived of their liberty and their families by mobilizing the community and the churches. For 20 years, he has dedicated his body and soul to a mission that is still the engine of all the foundation’s actions.

“We are starting the year with hope.” The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is waning and the future is brighter as we move forward in 2022. Our board of directors has met in person since the beginning of the year, and we carry out almost all our activities in person. Based on the feedback we received from a wide range of organizations we have supported throughout 2021, we are cautious but optimistic about the future. As many of you know, the Prison Fellowship ROMANIA FOUNDATION is celebrating 29 years of activity this year. “As people face new challenges, we are with them every step of the way.”
